Jeffersonland Chorus Rehersal Etiquette

A Commitment to Excellence and Enjoyment

It’s exciting to see so many singers meeting with the JLC each week! We’re thrilled to welcome 15-20 singers every week. We love the energy you bring, and we’re committed to making sure our rehersals are a fun and productive space for everyone.

To facilitate optimal learning and performance, we kindly request adherence to the following rehersal etiquette:

Structure and Purpose

Rehersal Songs and Segments: The Director will guide the chorus through our singing, sometimes focusing on entire songs and sometimes specific musical challenges and enhance the chorus’s overall performance.

Break: The Director will call for a brief break approximately halfway through the rehersal. During this time, singers are encouraged to rest, hydrate, and prepare mentally for the next segment.

Conduct During Rehersal

Focus on Instruction: All singers must pay close attention to the directors’ instructions and guidance. The Director’s expertise is essential for the musical development of the chorus.

Active Participation: Full engagement in all singing exercises is expected. Singers are encouraged to strive for continuous improvement in their performance.

Respect for Rehearsal Segments: Distractions during focused rehearsal segments must be avoided.

Utilization of Breaks: Breaks are provided for rest, hydration, and preparation for subsequent segments.

Timeliness and Preparedness: Singers are expected to arrive on time, adequately warmed up, and prepared to sing. If circumstances require you to arrive late (either for the beginning of a rehearsal or after a break), discreetly enter without distracting other singers.

Discouraged Conduct

Distraction of the Chorus and Directors: Unnecessary chatter, side conversations, and off-topic discussions are discouraged during rehearsal.

Interruption of Rehearsal: Questions unrealted to the current segment should be reserved for break time or end of rehearsal.

Distracting Activities: Cell phones that are not silenced, reading materials other than sheet music, or personal conversations during rehearsals are frowned upon.

Questions and Communication

Questions Releated to the Current Segment: If a question arises regarding the current segment, singers should raise their hand and wait for the director to acknowledge them.

Questions Unrelated to the Current Segment: Questions not on the current segment should be addressed during a break or by approaching the director directly at the end of rehearsal.

Adherence to these guidelines will foster a positive and productive rehearsal environment. allowing the chorus to improve its performance, achieve musical excellence, and enjoy the collaborative process.
